The syllabus used has been constructed in order to achieve a framework
for participants to develop English Language Literacy and Numeracy
skills to undertake further education and training, seek and maintain
employment and participate in mainstream community. |
| |
|
This program integrates both spoken and written English through the
study of whole texts and each level is easily compared to the National
Reporting System (NRS) which is a nationally recognised system for
reporting outcomes of adult English language, literacy and numeracy
programmes. |
| |
|
Each level consists of modules that cover different aspects of language
learning. The learning outcomes define skills with which learners may
need to engage, such as casual conversation, written information texts,
written report, learning strategies, working with calculations and can
be applied to a wide variety of learner groups. |
| |
|
An assessment is completed by each participant prior to commencement to
ensure they are placed in a course level that is relevant to their
particular skill level and need. This assessment will also give a
grading within the NRS. |

We have found that the best method of delivery is an intensive yet
informal workshop style approach, seemingly removing the formal
learning environment experienced in mainstream schooling however still
maintaining enough structure to enable effective learning outcomes.
This method of delivery has been a proven success in many indigenous
communities on Cape York and also in Yarrabah where it has been
exercised in the delivery of LLN and other programs. |
